Everything You Need To Know!
HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned nightly and sometimes on weekends. Homework is a reinforcement of the concepts taught in class and is expected to be completed daily. The only time homework is accepted late is if there is an absence. Classwork and homework must be written in pencil or black/blue pen only. Any assignment written in marker, highlighter, gel pen, or red pen will not be accepted. Also, any assignment turned in with no name will receive a zero.

PROJECTS
Since Kilgour is a project-based school, projects are a part of learning. All projects will have a requirement checklist and a scoring guide. This will make it easy to complete the project on time and earn the best score possible. Projects will always be given ample time to complete, therefore late projects will not be accepted unless there is an abence on the due date. It will then be expected on the day returned.

ORGANIZATION
Students are expected to keep all notes and class work in a binder and keep it organized. This will be helpful when preparing for tests and when completing in-class assignments. Students will have a binder for Math and one for Science. Binders will be collected and graded once each quarter.

GRADES AND GRADED PAPERS
Students will receive mid-term assessments and quarterly report cards. Assigned grades are A, B, C, D, or F. Some project grades reflect letter grades as 4, 3, 2, 1, or 0. Graded papers will be sent home daily not in Tuesday envelopes. Please make sure to have a "Take-Home" folder so all the fabulous grades have a safe ride home to the refrigerator.

Grades for all assignments, quizzes, labs, and tests will be posted on the bulletin board each week on Friday. (Anonymously listed by the student’s ID number.) Students have this opportunity to access their current class grade and make sure they have turned in all assignments during the week. Students will have until the following Monday morning to turn in any IN CLASS missing assignments. (Not homework) Any in-class work that is not turned in on Monday will be marked as a zero, and there will not be a chance to turn it in at a later date.

EXTRA CREDIT
There is no "extra credit" in my class. To earn the best grade complete the projects and homework assigned on time.

BEHAVIOR/COLOR CODE POINTS
Respectful and appropriate behavior is the only behavior accepted in my class. Students are expected to respect other students, Kilgour's staff, parents and volunteers. Students are also expected to follow school and classroom rules. Color Code is in place again this year, and it is as follows:

Green Day = Great Day! = 4 points
Yellow Day = Warning = 3 points
Blue Day = Consequence = 1 point
Red Day = Office Referral/ISS = 0 points

The color received each day along with earned points will be marked in the daily planner at the end of each day. Points will accumulate each quarter and are to be earned for school activities and field trips. All students are required to earn 80% of points to attend these activities. Students must also have 80% of your homework turned in to attend special activities outside of the classroom.

If students do not earn the required points, parent(s) may accompany their child on school or classroom trips. Parents will be required to stay the entire length of the trip or activity.

DAILY PLANNERS
Plan books are a lifeline from school to home. It is required that students bring their planner to school and home daily, as well as to each classroom. Ample time will be given to write down daily homework assignments and other school related information. Daily "color code" will also be written in plan books and initialed by me. Plan books are also used as a communication tool from school to home. (Parents, if you write a note to me please instruct your child to show me the note at the beginning of the school day, rather than the end.)

ABSENCES
I need all smiling faces everyday, on time, unless ailing of a known medical illness. Sick of school doesn't count! All missing assignments must be made up in a reasonable amount of time, preferrably the day after you return. Students are to take responsiblity for their education and ask for their missed assignments.

CONFERENCING
Parents, if you need to speak with me about your child's needs, grades or progress, I will be available most days the half-hour before school starts and the half-hour after school ends. Feel free to email me, call me (363-3028) or set up a conference time to discuss any concerns about assignments or progress. Please keep in mind that instruction time is valuable. I will not be available to conference or take phone calls during instructional time.
