The following is a description of my role as the intervention specialist for students who have hearing impairments.
Students are integrated in the regular classroom with pull-out services for support. I am the liaison between the staff and parent to assist in meeting the student's unique needs and provide support to the staff throughout the year.
Orientation for all staff members with whom the student will be interfacing during the year.
Lessons and information are adapted to the oral and written communication needs of the student. Modifications outlined in the student's IEP are clarified.
The student's individual interests, abilities, and learning styles are used to develop and support learning opportunities.
I collaborate with parents and with other professionals, such as interpreters, audioligists, speech langugage and medical providers. I maintain regular contact with parents.
Information is provided to parents of resources, agencies and organizations that might help them as a family.
Speech skills are infused into the academic areas consistent with the ability of the student.
I monitor personal hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems providing listening checks and mainenance of equipment.
