BINDER REQUIREMENTS for Latin I and Latin II
For your reference- since a Binder Check can happen AT ANY TIME and is worth a QUIZ grade! (Easiest quiz ever.)
EVERY student must have a binder of at least 1.5 inches in depth; 2 inches is preferable.
The binder must contain 4 POCKET dividers, one for each quarter. The only thing to be stored in the pocket divider is each chapter's set of Flash Cards, for the quarter in which that chapter was learned.
In the bottom pocket or otherwise *securely* attached to the bottom inside cover of the binder should be the student's remaining Homework Passes: if yours is lost, you won't get another one! Precious. . .
Likewise, every student should have a folder containing all of their current Culture Project information/research right at the back of their binder.
Each student's supply of college-ruled looseleaf paper is to be stored at the back or bottom of the binder.
The FIRST Quarter pocket divider, containing the First Quarter vocabulary Flash Cards (and grammar ones too, if you do them).
The first class item should be the course syllabus and all introductory materials from the first day of classes.
Thereafter, every item produced in class is to be filed on top of the previous day's work. Of course, this means you need to be certain to date everything! (Look at the assignment board if you can't remember the date.) So when you get a quiz, test or homework back, file it on the date it was done / due, NOT the day it is returned.
A pocket divider for the new quarter should be inserted on top of the last day of each quarter. If individual students would like to further separate their work into chapters, they may decide to use paper clips or small sticky notes.
The only exception to the "reverse-chronological file" rule, besides the Flash Cards and Culture research already mentioned, is each student's review vocabulary list. EVERYBODY needs one- I still have to check spelling sometimes! If the binder has no pocket in the front, students may borrow some duct tape to affix their Review Vocab List.
PLEASE KEEP YOUR BINDER COMPLETE AND UP-TO-DATE! In case of a ramdom check, it is your Free Gift from me; in the case of a dispute over grading records, it is your only proof of any lapse in accuracy.
The whole idea is that you are compelled by this setup to look at TODAY's work before you can get to TONIGHT's work. . . . and since quizzes (25% of your final quarter average) are based on homework and classwork, that's a Really Good Idea.
If anyone would like to have some help in organizing their binder, or some individual criticism on how to improve it, please pop in at lunchtime. . . AM sessions are way too hectic to be spreading out all of your papers!
