Shroder Students Focus on Reading

The objective at Shroder, as a member of the High Schools that Work consortium, is to have students read up to 25 books per year. The Shroder LMC has added some incentives such as a reading contest by grade level and a book club that meets twice a month open to all grade levels. In addition, middle school students at Shroder will participate in the Scholastic Reading Inventory and Reading Counts programs. With these programs in place students are encouraged to read above their currently identified reading levels.

This summer, David Ostmann, a representative from 5th/3rd Bank, delivered 71 new books donated by their employees to Mrs. Harper, Principal, and Ms. Liberi, Librarian. A grand total of 750 new books were added to the LMC this past year!

Information Literacy

One important goal of the Shroder LMC is for students to develop and sharpen their information literacy skills. Students who attend high school at Shroder should graduate with the skills necessary to be competitive in a technological society. Therefore, aside from using the LMC to browse and select books of interest, students should engage in activities at the LMC that will teach them how to conduct research effectively. Information literacy skills not only prepare students for real life interests but also for attending college and other institutions of high learner.
