What's happening? We have benchmark testing in Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science this week so there is no homework.
If you have volunteered to make muffins with the students, please be at school at 9 a.m.
To access HOMEWORK, click on "newsletter" on the sidebar. Then click on "homework" at the top of the newsletter page. You can get copies of the actual homework sheets that I pass out in class by clicking on "homework (date)" at the top of the homework page.
We are now recycling paper and aluminum cans here at Fairview. There is a green and yellow Abitibi dumpster at the service entrance to the school on McAlpin. You can put every kind of paper including magazines, cardboard, construction paper, corrugated cardboard, telephone books, junk mail, shredded paper, etc. The only exceptions are boxes that came in contact with food, like pizza boxes and plastic coated paper. No plastic bags please. Please break boxes down before placing them in the Abitibi dumpster. The aluminum can dumpster is in the parking lot south of the school in the same spot as last year. Collect aluminum cans for the school and drop them off when you pick up or drop off your children. Please do not put plastic bags in the can dumpster. The school earns money for collecting both paper and aluminum, so please help us out and bring your paper and cans to school to be recycled.
Homework policy: Homework in math and/or science is assigned weekly. On the first day of each week a cover letter will be sent home with the events of the week and the homework assignments. You can also view the cover letter and most homework sheets on this website. Click on the newsletter on the side bar. You will see the link to homework on that page. All math and science homework is due on Friday, unless otherwise specified on the cover letter. Students will have math homework most weeks, and science homework on occasion. Studying for tests is homework. On the week of a midterm or unit science test I will not give written homework, so that the kids can spend that time studying for the test. I give Friday quizzes on the concepts that we study in math. Math homework is related to concepts assessed on the quizzes. The quizzes also cover concepts that have been worked on during class, but were not assigned for homework. As the year progresses I will sometimes put concepts from earlier in the year on a quiz to check retention of given topics. If students fail to do their homework, they will miss extra recess. If homework is not turned in due to illness, the child will have until the following Monday to finish the work and turn it in.
The best way to communicate with me is through email. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to email me. You can see on the side bar there is a place to click, if you want to email me or Mrs Riesenberg.
Know any cool math, science or social studies web sites? Send them to me, so I can share them with other students in the class. |
