My name is Ms. Hicks. I am looking forward to a fun and exciting year in Kindergarten at Schiel. In order to have a successful year we must work together.
Please feel free to contact me through my voicemail at 363-5230 or by e-mail at hickska@cps-k12.org. I usually check my voicemail and e-mail each day before and after school.
Please take advantage of our school’s free breakfast program. Students should report to the cafeteria immediately upon arrival at school for breakfast. If your child pays for lunch, they may pay as they go through the breakfast line or at the table in the hallway. Paying in the morning keeps the lunch line moving smoothly and lessens the chance of losing lunch money.
We will be working hard in our Voyager reading program and will incorporate writing activities with our stations. We will work on counting, number sense, time, and money recognition in math. We will investigate trees and other living things and learn how to sort objects using properties in science. We will practice good manners, responsibility, and cooperation in social studies as well as investigate communities and holidays.
Homework packets will be sent home on Monday (or the first day of the week). The work should be completed and returned in the homework folder on Friday (or the last day of the week). In addition to the packets, I would like students to read or be read to for at least 15 minutes each night.
