I am the 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Shroder High School, a Paideia Learning Community. Below is a brief overview of some important information.
WORLD HISTORY (1000 BC to 1750). 1st Quarter: Ancient India, Ancient China & Ancient Greece 2nd Quarter: Rome & Islam 3rd Quarter: African Empires, Asian Empires & Feudal Europe 4th Quarter: Renaissance, Reformation & Age of Exploration
SUPPLIES: •Pens (blue or black only) •3-ring binder •2 70-100 page spiral notebooks (one per semester)
Students are REQUIRED to bring the Student Assignment Book, a pen and binder EVERY DAY. Class work will be completed in the SS notebook; homework, tests & quizzes will be kept in the SS section of the 3-ring binder.
ASSESSMENT: Student grades are based on their performance in the following areas: •Projects, Reports, Tests & Quizzes •Class work (discussions, activities, assignments, etc) •Homework (assigned EVERY Monday thru Thursday)
GRADE SCALE: A (90-100) means students are making excellent progress B (80-89) means students are making very good progress C (70-79) means students are making satisfactory progress D (60-69) means students are barely passing and should attend help sessions F (0-59) means students are failing and need to attend help sessions regularly
•Students will receive bi-weekly progress reports, which they must get signed and return. •Students have one week to make up homework assignments, 5 points will be deducted on late work. •No work will be accepted that does not include the student’s first & last name, section and the date. HELP SESSIONS: Every Wednesday 3:30-4:30 pm. Students may attend to get individualized help on schoolwork, and to revise assignments with a grade below “C”.
TEXTBOOK: Everyone will be issued at least 2 textbooks: The Ancient World and Medieval Times to Today, which they will keep at home. (This should reduce the chances of theft or loss) It will cost $16.95 to replace each lost or stolen textbook.
CLASS RULES: (1) Respect Yourself and Others -Be responsible for yourself -Use appropriate language -Think about the impact that your words and actions have on others
(2) Be Prepared to Learn -Always do your best -Have a positive attitude (including "looking" awake) -Focus your attention on completing the assignment
(3) Obey All School Rules -Conduct yourself in an orderly manner -Enjoy music, games, etc. at home -Only ask to leave the room if it is an emergency -Eat food (including gum and candy) in the lunchroom
REWARDS & CONSEQUENCES: Students are recognized and rewarded for their positive contributions to our class, team & school. Rewards include, but are not limited to, verbal praise, phone calls home, notes in the SAB, candy, small prizes, “Shinning Star”, “Student of the Week” & “Student of the Month” honors. In the unlikely event disciplinary action is needed you can expect me to follow our team’s discipline ladder.
