Discipline Policy (Mr. Grunder) 2008 – 2009
Classroom Rules 1. All school rules will be enforced. 2. Each student is to be in his/her seat before the tardy signal. 3. You must be recognized in order to speak during a presentation or when another student has been recognized. 4. Disruptive noises will not be tolerated. 5. You must have permission to be out of your seat after the tardy signal. 6. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Consequences Verbal and/or written warnings will be given to inform students of unacceptable behavior. Upon receiving a warning, the student should immediately STOP the unacceptable behavior. The warning will be recorded on the student’s behavior card. If unacceptable behavior continues the student will be issued a classroom detention. A detention will also be issued for a combination of rule violations on any given day. Failure to serve a classroom detention will result in an immediate phone call home. A classroom detention will last between 15-30 minutes, depending upon the nature of the violation. The detention time will be used to clarify classroom rules and expectations. A parent will be contacted if a student is issued another detention for the same offense. A parent will also be contacted if disruptive behavior continues, such as repeated warnings without being assigned a detention. Should misbehavior continue after this contact, a parent conference will be requested. Parents will have access to all relevant records during this conference. The student should also be present at this meeting. Should conferences prove ineffective in correcting student behaviors, direct referral to the appropriate grade level administrator will be made. Steps in these procedures may be skipped, depending upon the severity of the misbehavior or urgency of the situation. Offenses such as fighting or disruption of the instructional process will result in immediate removal and referral to the grade level administrator. In recent years, the use of cell phones, pagers, and calculator/gaming devices during class time has become a problem. In keeping with school policy, students are reminded that electronic devices such as those mentioned are not to be turned on or used during class time. The inconsiderate use of such devices will result in the enforcement of the school’s confiscation policy. Additionally, the use of such devices during a quiz or test will result in a “zero” on the quiz or test. It is my hope that we all experience a wonderful school year. We will have to work together in order to make this happen. Feel free to contact me at school (363-8489) should you have any questions about any of these rules, procedures, or expectations. Students should discuss any disagreements about warnings or detentions after class. I am also available before school (7:00) or after school (until 3:00) daily. Please read and discuss these rules and the classroom policies at home. If you have any concerns about the operation of my class, please contact me. Together, we can overcome any obstacles we may face during the school year. Your timely return of the tear-off below is appreciated. Sincerely,
Mr. Grunder
