Welcome to Amy Forrester's Homepage and the Music Department's current events information link.

I am the Music Dept. secretary and it is my goal to keep you informed about music events, happenings, and program information here at Walnut. (You know, all that stuff which your kids are supposed to share with you, but never makes it out of the book bag until the end of the year).

Singing Gramophone February 2007 Highlights
February 6 - WHIP Meeting, 7 pm in Conference Room. Cancelled due to weather. Rescheduled for February 13, same time, same place.

February 6, (cancelled due to weather), February 27, March 6, and March 20 - Pizza Sale fundraisers for Wind Ensemble trip to Carnegie Hall. Donations of baked goods also solicited.

February 13 - Spring Magazine drive launches. Look for packet coming home with students for magazine subscriptions and renewals. Remember, WHIP earns 40% of the renewal price. During the drive students can earn prizes and rewards. Turn in dates are February 22, February 27, and March 1.

February 20 - From the Top, LIVE NPR RADIO SHOW, 7 pm at Music Hall. Several Walnut Hills music students will be performing with the Cincinnati May Festival Youth Chorus. For tickets visit - http://www.wguc.org/events/ftt_index.asp

February 23 - Third payment ($300) for Wind Ensemble trip due.


Dancing Blue Note Of Special Note
Wind Ensemble Trip to NYC & Carnegie Hall: April 5 through 9. **Next Parent Informational Meeting will be Thursday March 15, at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium.** Medical Forms will be due at that time. Third payment ($300) due February 23. Tickets for the Carnegie Hall performance will go on sale 6 weeks prior, cost $45, call the box office at 212-247-7800.

Max & Erma's Night Out: Fun, Food, & Fundraising! Wednesday, January 31, all day, at Rookwood Commons. Almost $600 was raised toward the cost of the Wind Ensemble NYC trip, and a great time was had by all! If you missed out on the fun & camaraderie, don't despair. We will probably do it again later this spring, to help defray some of the costs for the end-of-year Steel Drum Band trip. Stay tuned!

Marching Band Pillows still available - great gift for a graduating senior - get them while supplies last!: Now that the band has those snazzy new uniforms (and no place to store the old ones!), we are converting those old faithful uniforms to a new & higher plane of existance. They are being transformed into collector's pillows. That's right - pillows. You have to see them to fully appreciate just how neat they are. But rest assured that all your favorite features are there - the sparkly sash, the brass buttons, the Walnut Hills logo, the epaulets (a place to hang your senior citation cord!), even that impressive white stripe that kept you all marching in step! A must have for every dorm room! What a great Christmas, birthday, or graduation gift! Don't wait too long to place your order - we can only make one fancy pillow from each uniform, so when the uniforms are gone, so is this opportunity. (We can offer a simpler version of the pillow, without the logo and epaulets, at a lower cost - it pairs nicely with the deluxe version as a set!).

Magazine Renewals: Our new spring fundraiser was a big success last year, and raised over $3,000 for our music programs. We will be launching another Magazine Drive starting February 14. We earn 40%! profit. Click on the sidebar at the left to see the details of how you can participate in this ongoing initiative.

Our Kroger Rewards Program is EASY MONEY!!! We are urging all our music parents (and anyone else who would like to join the program) to get a Kroger Rewards card and use it for any shopping you might do at Krogers & their affiliates. If you use the card to pay for your groceries (& fuel!), Kroger will donate 4% of everything you spend to WHIP. See left navigator for a link to a full explanation of our program. You can get WHIP Kroger cards from the Music Office.

Instrument Donations Solicited: If you have old instruments you're not using, we would love to give them a new home and put them to work! Your donation is tax deductible - please contact the Music Dept. if interested. Thanks!

*We Need Volunteers*: If you want to get involved with your student(s)'s musical endeavors here at school, there are lots of ways to participate. Click on "Help Wanted" at the left to see a complete listing of volunteer opportunities. We are particularly in need of Concert ticket sale volunteers, Boxtops counters, and also parents who are interested in serving as WHIP officers and committee chairs for next year. Contact the music office if you have an interest in these or any other activities.

Private Lessons: We cannot overstress the importance of private lessons in improving your child's performance in voice or instrument. If your student is at all serious about perfecting their skills, please consider making the investment in private lessons. We have a number of private tutors who offer lessons right here at school,during study halls, lunch, regular music classes, or after school. Please contact us to find out more.
