North Avondale Montessori School (NAM) is striving to make sure that every child is proficient or better. In November 2006, we began our volunteer-based tutoring program. As a result, our state scores have improved.
Currently, NAM has a high need for tutors. We would love for you to join our team.
There are 5 ways to help.
- Weekly Tutors (during school hours): If you can spare 30 minutes weekly, please consider tutoring any grade K-6 in reading, writing or math. Tutors choose the weekday and the time (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM) they are available. Grade levels and subjects can also be requested. We match the tutor’s preferences the best we can. The teachers provide the curriculum. Potential weekly tutors must get a background check through Cincinnati Public Schools. Please click on “Background Check Information” at the bottom of this page.
- “Super Saturdays”: A program for 4-6th graders who were not able to pass the Ohio Achievement Tests (OAT). Super Saturdays runs March 1 – April 26, 9 AM – NOON (with no sessions March 22 & 29 due to our spring break). We need tutors on any Saturday they are available to assist with math and reading. (The curriculum is provided.) The kid’s next chance to pass the OAT is on April 27, the day after Super Saturday concludes!
- Classroom Tutors: Classroom tutors assist the children with their daily school work, while they are in the class. If you like kids, this is for you! You can arrange your (flexible) schedule with the teacher(s). Our school hours are 7:45 AM – 2:15 PM. Potential tutors must get a background check though Cincinnati Public Schools. - Teacher Helpers: Teacher helpers do NOT give instructions to children. However, they help the teacher by organizing classroom materials, filing, cutting out materials, or other tasks. This job helps free the teacher’s time for more classroom instructions. Some of the help can be done from your own home. If you plan to volunteer at the school, potential Teacher Helpers must get a background check though Cincinnati Public Schools. - After-School Enrichment Volunteers: The sky is the limit! If you have an idea, and would like to give it a try . . . go for it! Ideas may be a Chess Club, Lego building, Science Club, Arts or whatever you’d like. Potential After-School Enrichment Volunteers must get a background check though Cincinnati Public Schools.
