Welcome New 7th Graders!
Running Graduate So you're the eager type huh?

I look forward to meeting you in August! Want to get a head start for a strong year? What can you do this summer?

Anything that makes you think!

  • Work puzzle books when you're bored (much better than tv court and talk shows anyway.)

  • Review your 6th grade math - especially fractions!

  • Dig out those old flash cards (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.) Prepare to impress with your quick thinking.

  • Go shopping with mom or dad - keep a running total of how much the bill will be before you get to the counter.

  • Read! Read! Read!

Pencil Rolling What supplies will you need?

We have adopted a color-coding system for 7th graders. You may want to wait to buy supplies until you have lists for each class, but each academic course will require a folder or binder in a specific color:

  • RED - Math

  • For my Pre-Algebra class you need:
    • Student Plan Book (available for purchase at WHHS)

    • Book Cover

    • Scientific Calculator (TI-30Xa or TI-30X IIS suggested)

    • Pencils & Erasers

    • RED 3-Ring Binder (minimum 1 inch)

    • Loose Leaf Paper

    • 6-12 Shatterproof Ruler (i.e., not plastic)

    • Protractor (needed 4th quarter)

Melting floppy disk Have a birthday coming up?

Ask for a portable USB drive (a flash drive, jumpdrive, thumbdrive, etc.) We will complete a major computer project in class this year, and floppy disks can be very unreliable. A flash drive is NOT REQUIRED, but it sure can be helpful for saving files and transporting data back and forth between school and home. I recommend a disk between 64-128MB for student use. This will probably be enough space to hold student files for 7th-12th grade.

These drives are made by several manufacturers and can usually be found anywhere computers or computer accessories are sold (Office Max, Staples, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Microcenter, Target, and many others.) Keep an eye out - there are often great sales, but the average 128MB disk runs about $20-$30.
