Walnut Hills Network

Our network is designed to facilitate collaboration among students and staff. It prepares students to navigate a typical university network, offering home directories, reference directories and shared access directories to all users. Users can access their files from any computer on campus, providing tremendous flexibility! High speed Internet access is also available to all workstations.

The details: We run a Novell-6 Network on a dual-P4-2.4 GHz Xeon file server with 270 GB of hard drive storage. Network backbone operates at 1 Gigabit, with 100 mbps connections to all computers.

Labs

There are three PC labs equipped with 28-34 workstations each, available for classroom instruction and/or individual student use. One of these labs is also open before and after school for drop-in students.

There is one Graphics Arts Lab equipped with 9-10 Mac computers.

Library Computers

The library contains 17 student research workstations, and four catalog stations.

Hardware

Beginning with school year 2002/2003 computers and printers are being leased for three-year intervals. As the program rolls out, one third of this equipment on campus is being upgraded each year.

By the end of January, 2004, all computers on campus will be 1.6GHz Celerons, or 1.8GHz+ Pentium-4 -- nothing more than two years old.

The new HP Laser printers print documents at >25 pages/minute.

Mobile Multimedia Carts

Mobile carts equipped with computer, monitor, DVD player and LCD projector are available for use in classrooms throughout the campus.
