UNITED STATES HISTORY AND GOVERNMENT
The American History program is a survey of the nations’ economic, political, cultural, and diplomatic development from 1877 to the present. The course recognizes the contributions made by the various ethnic groups in America. It presents new as well as traditional viewpoints and interpretations of America’s past. Students learn to apply lessons of history to their own experiences. It stresses the importance of being informed on the manyissues of today and assessing the conflicting views expressed by scholars and members of the mass media. In the first marking period, which is devoted to the study of American government, each student is required to participate in the political campaign of his/her choice to gain a personal understanding of participatory citizenship.
