First quarter, English 12AA classes will do library research and construct unique magazines based on topics such as American Beauty, Poverty and Homelessness, Domestic Violence, Bullying in Schools, and Family Values.
Second quarter, seniors will write characterizations to be presented orally to the class. Literary criticism and oral interpretation will be assigned, and literary vocabulary will be studied.
Third quarter, books by world authors such as Hugo, Ibsen, Achebe, Hesse, Desai, Camus, Virgil, Markandaya, and Chekhov will be read. Book talks will be given, and students will explicate and write poetry, as well as create an electronic portfolio.
Fourth quarter, the ten-page research paper will be written. Topics for the research paper range from engineering to animal abuse!
Short stories, essays and plays will be read and analyzed throughout the school year.
English 12AA major reading assignments include The Bluest Eye, Hamlet, Night, A Doll's House, The Canterbury Tales, and Cyrano de Bergerac.
